Sailboat Rental in Heraklion with Oceans Evasion

Heraklion is the capital of Crete, the largest and most populous of the Greek islands. The city has a long and fascinating history, dating back to the Bronze Age. It was an important centre for the Minoan civilization, which was one of the earliest complex societies in Europe. Today, it is a sought-after tourist destination that is home to some of Greece’s finest beaches as well as a wealth of history and culture.

Heraklion boasts some of the most stunning landscapes in the Mediterranean. From its rugged coastline to lush green valleys and rolling hills, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The city itself is surrounded by an impressive Venetian fortress and offers numerous beaches, coves and lagoons for visitors to explore. With its rich cultural history, Heraklion also has plenty of archaeological sites to discover as well as traditional villages and towns that offer a glimpse into the past. With a sailboat rental in Heraklion, you can get to know the very best of the city as well as the rest of the island of Crete. What are you waiting for? Let Oceans Evasion help you enjoy an unforgettable holiday with the ones you love.

What is the price of a sailboat rental in Heraklion?

€2,790/week in the high season and €1,950/week in the low season for 10 people.

What is the best time of year to charter a sailboat in Heraklion?

The best time of year to get a sailboat rental in Heraklion is between April and November. At this time the weather will be beautiful and sunny, and the temperature, warm. Of course, the summer is when the temperatures are the highest with an average of 28°C, but this is also the high tourist season in Crete which means it will be crowded. For fewer crowds and better deals on Heraklion sailboat charters, we recommend visiting in May or September.

Should I rent a sailboat in Heraklion with or without a skipper?

At Oceans Evasion we have plenty of sailboat rentals in Heraklion with or without a skipper. If you have a sailing licence you might be keen to opt for a bareboat vessel however, we always recommend choosing one with a skipper. Especially since sailboats are notorious for being difficult to navigate, it’s always safer and smoother to have a skipper on board who will dock, anchor and sail the vessel for you. Skippers can share some of their nautical expertise with you and because they are locals, they can give you recommendations for where to go and what to see. If you want a personalised sailing holiday where you’ll see everything on you travel itinerary and more, rent a sailboat in Heraklion with a skipper.

What is there to do while on a sailboat charter in Heraklion?

One thing is for certain, you can never be bored in Heraklion! This vibrant city is chock full of things to see and do. Here are some of the best things to explore while on a sailboat charter in Heraklion:

  • Visit the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. This world-renowned museum houses an impressive collection of Minoan artefacts, including pottery, jewellery and sculptures.
  • Take a stroll through the Old Town. Heraklion's Old Town is a beautiful labyrinth of narrow streets and Venetian architecture. Be sure to stop by the Lion Fountain, one of the city's most iconic landmarks.
  • Relax on one of Heraklion's many beaches. The city offers some of the most stunning beaches in Greece. Whether you're after a secluded spot or a lively beach where you can soak up the sun, you’ll find it in Heraklion. Enjoy lazy days on the long stretch of sand that makes up Amoudara Beach. It’s perfect for lazy days spent topping up your tan and taking a dip in the crystal-clear waters. There are plenty of beach bars nearby for drinks and snacks, too! Head over to Stalida Beach for something a bit more picturesque. With its golden sand, swaying palm trees and calming turquoise waters, this spot is guaranteed to take your breath away. It's also great for swimming and snorkelling due to its shallow depths. If you’re a fan of windsurfing and other watersports, head to the white sands of Karteros Beach!
  • Learn about culture in Knossos. Knossos is an ancient Minoan palace located just outside of Heraklion, and perfect for a day trip. It's a great place to learn about Cretan history and see some incredible ruins.

What should I consider before renting a sailboat in Heraklion?

If you’re looking for an authentic sailing experience, you can’t beat a sailboat rental in Heraklion. Sailboats are the best vessel for getting in touch with the water, although they can be a bit unstable and due to their tendency to sway, they aren’t recommended for people who get seasick. They can also be difficult to navigate so if you’re an avid sailor who enjoys a challenge, a sailboat is the way to go. If you’re a novice sailor, you should opt for a skippered sailboat so someone with nautical experience can navigate for you. For a traditional sailing getaway, charter a sailboat in Heraklion!

Dia island - uninhabited island north of Heraklion surrounded by small rocky inlets, only accessible on boat! The island is of great archeological interest as it was populated during Minoan times and near the bay of Agios Georgios, a harbour settlement was established. The undersea discoveries of Jacques Yves Cousteau in 1974-5, provided evidence suggesting that there stood one of the biggest and most important ports in the whole island of Crete. The harbour appears to have sunk due to the destruction caused in the 1450 bc by the eruption of the volcano of Santorini and visitors are able to see remains of it if they dive with mask! Awesome private sailing trip!
