Rent a Sailboat in Mallorca with Oceans Evasion

As the largest of the Balearics, it's not difficult to see why so many see Mallorca as an idyllic island paradise, with perfect year round sailing conditions. Already known for its beach resorts and sheltered coves, there are many hidden secrets that you will miss if you never traverse the island in a sailboat, from hidden beaches to hidden towns, all only easily accessible by boat. When renting a sailboat in Mallorca, you must also sample some local food and take the opportunity to go island hopping while only a short distance from a large number of prime sailing destinations.

How much does it cost to rent a sailboat in Mallorca?

The cost of renting a sailboat in Mallorca is dependent on many different factors including, how long you want to sail for, where in Mallorca you want to go, how many people will be traveling, and even the season. In general, though, you should expect to pay anywhere from €700 per week.

Do you need to rent a sailboat with a skipper in Mallorca?

No, you don’t need to rent a sailboat with a skipper in Mallorca as you can find sailboats available to rent either with or without a crew. However, if you plan on renting without a skipper, you will need to look into the legislation regarding boating licences, as for sailboats longer than 6 metres or those which have an engine power of more than 15 horsepower, you will need a licence for a bareboat charter.

Bareboat rentals are perfect for those who are already experienced sailors and want the freedom to explore the area as they choose. However, for people who don’t have the necessary licence, renting with a skipper is the perfect opportunity to see a little more of Mallorca from a different perspective, with the expert input of someone who really knows the area.

What are the weather and sailing conditions like in Mallorca?

Mallorca’s weather changes a lot depending on the season. In general, temperatures stay between 4.44-30.56°C, with the hottest recorded temperatures usually being in August, and the coldest in January, when the average is just 5°C. The coldest water temperatures usually occur in February, when they are around 13.89°C on average, but they shoot up to around 26.11°C in August

Mallorca’s rainfall is highest in November, when levels are around 5.59 cm, but drop down to just 0.76 cm of rain in July. The windiest month is December, when the average hourly wind speed is around 20.76 kmph but these wind speeds die down to just 12.07 kmph in July, Mallorca’s calmest month.

When is the best time to go sailing in Mallorca?

In general, although the summer months see better weather, it is actually best to go to Mallorca during the spring. In the summer, many tourists struggle with the high temperatures and humidity levels and given that this is the time when most people go on holiday, the beaches are crowded and the boat prices often a little expensive. During spring and also the early autumn, not only is the weather usually a little more bearable, but the beaches are emptier and the boat prices usually lower.
