Sailboat Rental in the Netherlands with Oceans Evasion

So many things come to mind when you think of the Netherlands; dainty wooden shoes, rich cheese, bicycles and maze-like canals are all part of what makes this country so great. The Netherlands is full of romance and culture, and there’s no better way to explore it than from the water! With a sailboat rental in the Netherlands, you can explore almost every part of this stunning country. From the buzzing urban atmospheres of Amsterdam and Rotterdam to the lake lover's paradise of Friesland province, there’s so much to experience in the Netherlands, and what better way to do it than with a sailing holiday? What are you waiting for? Start creating unforgettable memories on board a Netherlands sailboat rental.

How much does a sailboat charter in the Netherlands cost?

The cost of a sailboat rental in the Netherlands depends on a number of things such as the exact location of your charter, how many people are on board, the time of year and the size and type of sailboat you choose. On average, the price is about €2,400/week in the high season and €1,950/week in the low season for 8 people.

What is the best time of year to charter a sailboat in the Netherlands?

The best time to embark on a sailing journey in the Netherlands would be between June and September when the weather is warm and the skies are clear and free from rain. You’ll experience the warmest weather in July with an average of 22°C however, do be advised that the summertime is the high tourist season, so you’re likely to encounter large crowds and higher prices on sailboat rentals in the Netherlands. If you don’t mind slightly cooler weather we’d recommend visiting in May or September for a more relaxing (and cheaper) holiday!

Should I rent a sailboat in the Netherlands with or without a skipper?

At Oceans Evasion we have a number of sailboats for charter in the Netherlands with or without a skipper on board. Unless you are an avid sailor with a lot of experience, we always recommend having a skipper on board for sailboat rentals since sailboats can be quite challenging to navigate and a skipper can either advise you about what to do or navigate the vessel for you. Even people who have a lot of sailing experience can benefit from the presence of a skipper since skippers are also locals of the area and can guide you around the Netherlands. With your skipper, you can create a customised sailing itinerary to see everything on your bucket list, and even some hidden gems you might not have thought about otherwise.

For a personalised and unique holiday without worry, choose a skippered vessel with Oceans Evasion!

What is there to do while on a sailboat charter in the Netherlands?

There is a reason that the Netherlands is home to some of the most sought-after destinations in Europe—there’s so much to do and see! Here is a list of some of our favourite things to do while on a sailboat rental in the Netherlands.

Traverse the fascinating waterways of Friesland, lined with ancient villages and sprightly meadows. Explore the various lakes of Tjeukemeer, Fluessen and Sneekermeer and take in the sight of the rustic landscape sprinkled with clay marshlands, dense woodlands and vast orchards. If you have time you can sail to the Wadden Islands and tour the villages of Leeuwarden and Hindeloopen. Head to the beaches and go for a swim, or contemplate the silence and go bird watching. If you’re lucky, you might even see seals!

Cruise along the canals in Amsterdam and visit cultural heritage museums such as the Anne Frank House or Rijksmuseum. If you’re keen on a night out, you can take advantage of the vibrant nightlife in the city’s Red Light District. See the iconic windmills on the outskirts of the city and head to the nearby fishing villages of Volendam and Marken.

Sail around the IJsselmeer and Markermeer and stop in the charming port towns such as Monnickendam, Flevoland and Muiden to get a true sense of Dutch culture and traditions.

What should I consider before renting a sailboat in the Netherlands?

Sailboats are fantastic vessels for getting an authentic sailing experience as they really allow you to get in touch with the wind and the waves. However, because of their tendency to sway on the water they can be notoriously difficult to navigate and they are also not suitable for people who are pregnant or prone to seasickness. If you would like to rent a sailboat in the Netherlands but lack sufficient sailing experience, not to worry! Choose one of our skippered vessels and you can sail until your heart’s content!
