About the experience

The first hour, the Peninsula unfolds.
You coast slowly, because speeding here would be a sin:
• Baths of Queen Giovanna. The water becomes transparent, and below you can see the remains of the Roman villa of Pollione Felice. From the boat, you understand why they called it the Queen's Pool: a natural rock arch enclosing a turquoise lagoon.
• Marina della Lobra and the Gulf of Jeranto. Olive trees descend to the sea, no houses, only the scent of myrtle wafting on the wind.
• Punta Campanella. It's the last finger of the Sorrento Peninsula. You pass it and officially enter the marine protected area. The sea changes color, from blue to emerald green. In the background, there's no longer Naples, only the Amalfi Coast.
The captain slows down and tells you that, according to Homer, the sirens sang here.
Li Galli — the unexpected stop
You arrive at the Sirens' Archipelago, three dolphin-shaped rocks between Capri and Positano. It's the perfect spot for your first dive. They give you a mask and throw you into water that's 72 degrees Fahrenheit in May, so clear you can see schools of damselfish. Legend has it that Ulysses was tied up here: after a swim, you'll understand why.
Back on board, they hand you a glass of chilled limoncello. It's not touristy, it's necessary.
Navigating the real Amalfi Coast
From here on, it's a succession of things you'd never see by car:
You skirt Nerano, then Praiano with its clinging houses, then the captain points out the Furore Fjord above, a cleft in the rock with a hidden beach and the bridge of the former road suspended 30 meters above. Shortly after, Conca dei Marini and the Emerald Grotto, where the light enters underwater and makes it truly glow green.
You're not looking at postcards. You're walking through them.

Around 11:30 AM, Amalfi, arrival from the sea
It's the best moment. You see it slowly arriving: first the majolica bell tower, then the striated façade of the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea dominating the square, then the tangle of alleys. From the sea, you understand why it was a Maritime Republic—the natural harbor is a stone embrace.
